I think that it is not fair to ask 15 euros for a game which is not stable. I bought this game to play it with my girlfriend as local co-op as we usually do on Steam. Our experience was very negative for the first 30 minutes we tried to actually get into game. Too many bugs, here are the few to mention:1. Loading time is like one minute, just black screen, no information about loading time or whatsoever.2. Re-mapping the keys is a mess. You set up a player 1 keys properly, then make player 2 keybinds to controller and the controller's buttons remap to the player 1 keys? What is the logic here?3. Got into game, we tried to play, as expected the player 2's controller controlled both players. 4. Tried to get into settings within game, pressed Esc -> hard quit, game went to desktop, what is this logic? Please test your games properly before releasing as these kind of releases are the reason people download games instead of buying them. To avoid such negative experiences. Loved the idea of game, implementation made me sad.Refund requested.. Overall I enjoyed my time with this game, the SNES style graphics, and music takes you on a nostalgia trip back to the glory days of gaming! There are a few technical issues with the game starting with the long load time(takes close to two minutes for me). Toward the end of the game I ran into a few code error messages, but not frequently enough to ruin my experience. The collision is also a bit suspect at times. I could go through a lot of walls that you are not meant to go through, and even suffered a few cheap deaths from falling through the ground. I also had a bit of trouble setting up my controller initially, I had to use JoyToKey to get it to works, since my Sabrent controller was not compatible at all; however that more likely an issue with the engine and not the game itself. These issues aside I really enjoyed the gameplay. There are a ton of secret sprinkled throughout the land, and I had a lot of fun just getting lost and exploring. The combat is also pretty enjoyable too and you are given a nice variety of characters to adventure with!Pros: Nice graphics and music. Many Secrets to Discover.Good Variety of Characters. Cons: Long Load Time.A bit buggy with suspect collision and a few code error pop ups.Setting up controller was a bit of a hassle.. Disclosure: I recieved a free key not as compensation but as a gift since I was promoting this game on SteamGifts.First Impressions:If you take the game for what it is, it's not really that bad per say. I'm currently having some technical problems but I expect that for pretty much any newly released game indie or triple A title. The music isn't horrible but it's not tempting me to seek a soundtrack purchase (maybe the songs from Hiroki Kikuta). I really dislike the text as it's blurry for myself which causes a problem as I already have bad eyes, however I'm not sure if this is just a problem I'm having specifically or just how the text was done in the game. I'll have more to talk about after I can get the game to launch and play semi smoothly. At the momment I really like the game in concept so I'm recommending it, maybe wait till a sale if you're not sure or on the fence about purchasing.Random note: The music reminds me a lot of the Final Fantasy series, which is cool.. Keeps crashing. Can't change cotrols. Takes forever to load. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.Oh and if you play anyway, don't double KO on the wizard boss or you will have to start over from the beginning : the key that drops will be lost forever and you won't be able to open doors to continue the game... neat huh?. In short:It just has far too many design issues (sound, plot, animation, engine... etc) so no amount of polish could fix it. It needs a rebuild, or to release it as a Github open source project or at least something free in a indie friendlier environment, but no, in no way is this ready for primetime (which is too bad, because it reads like a good solid game pitch). Longer rant :Bro-Force is almost over and I was looking for something. My aim was not as high, but I did read about this starting out as a megaman Fan Game project with 4 players, but the devs decided to switch to pro because they had invested in the project too much. Well ... I understand making a game is not easy and I hope they try again, but this game is not good. My problems are not with the wonky hitboxes or the low quality graphics. It's more of usability issue* There's no tutorial* The intro text is distorted and practically unreadable* The intro animation could have all that back story, but instead you are thrown into it (instead we get to see a seizure warning sign and a completely unrelated Mandelbrot fractal zoom after many minutes waiting for it to load). Problem is, it's really not that good; not because of the writing (though the style seems more like a draft) but because the animations are lacking, yet showcased as if though they had been fully developed.* There are very poorly placed spawn points* Enemies at the begining can already kill you, not in an I wanna be the guy kind of way but more in a this one barely harms you that thing will kill you right off if you touch it. And the only way to tell is by trial and error...* Pressing Escape closes it, instantly. It will take minutes to play, but can be closed instantly while searching for ways to change character... Yeah, fun All in all, this game is lacking in design and had far too many loose ends, which must be why it was abandoned (no updates through 2017 is abandoned to me). The sound is bad, the graphics are bad, the gameplay is dull, the characters are uninspiring (level design has already been discussed by many). And the worst part is I really wanted to like it, in fact I rarely ever make a negative review, and I searched the internet like crazy for the Fangame it spawned from and have played many many amateur proyects (poorly made RomHacks? Heck yeah!). But this one just doesn't gel. It seems like it was partially repurposed, partially patch, parts here, parts there, whole nowhere. I am sorry, I hope to see a more developed project later, I really do. As for this little guy, it just doesn't cut it.. At first Endica VII The Dream King gives you the impression of being something it is not. The tag says it is a metroidvania game and in a way It is, but the game hides its mechanics making the experience seem more simple than it is. When you start the game you are faced with a very difficult boss battle that unless you are careful means a one hit kill, after this, you get a very cinematic escape with our hero jumping down pits like Luke Skywalker in Empire to escaping a gigantic boulder like in Indiana Jones. I have to admit, I died a lot during this introduction to the point that I got mad at the game, but like many things in this game, first impressions were really deceptive. Once you reach town that is when the game starts taking shape and we start noticing all the intricate and well arranged gameplay mechanics that are set in place to draw you into this epic open world action rpg. At first the gameplay reminds you of Mega Man, simple platforming and money collecting. In a way it reminds me of the arcade game Dragon Buster by Namco, even one of the heroes looks like the main character of this game. Platforming is well balanced and the boss fights can be beaten by learning their battle patterns. I was misled to believe that this was a simple game by its first half an hour of gameplay, but the truth is that the game hides its leveling up and complexity and for a long time makes you think there is nothing to collect, but the truth is that the world map is littered with upgrades for the vast cast of characters and if you use a character more than others they start leveling up. It seems that you cant level up your life bar, but in truth, as you play your life bar gets more levels. When you level up you will get a screen telling you of new abilities like double jump, dash and so on. So the game rewards you for sticking with one character. All the characters have different starting attributes and special attacks but by using them more they might become better at what they lack. Level design is very organic, valleys lead to hills, hills lead to mountains and mountains into caves, this is presented in a very natural way. Sound design is finely tuned to be atmospheric and highly magical, when you enter caves you hear the wind howl, or water dripping and subtle echoes in the distance. Caverns are vast, full of hidden chambers, temples and hundreds of goblin like creatures. The developer even paid attention to having the same race of monsters in different ages, like youngsters, adults and elders. The world is full of details and life, from hanging moss to mushrooms and fruit orchards that you can eat from. There is animal life as well and it comes to play as a game mechanic when using a very interesting female character. The game plays like if Castlevania 2 had a baby with Mega Man and this baby had Skyrim aspirations. The real life backgrounds combined with the sprites somehow reminds me of Bakshi's Lord of the Rings. The story starts in the middle of a conflict, with the backdrop of a cursed land under the spell of war. The story draws many parallel with the Dragonlance novels and is heavily influenced by anime shows like Slayers [the main character looks like Xellos from slayers], Legend of Crystania and Record of Lodoss War. The soundtrack is magical, inspired by Secret of Mana, Ys and FF Crystal Chronicles. This soundtrack should be on sale, because it has a lot of replay value by itself.Negatives - - Analog joystick doesnt work properly, digital works fine. - Town design makes no sense for a small rural town [too many stores] - Initial load takes forever. - Town exploration needs diferent character models. - You need a menu to see your stats and a map. I really recommend this game and I could be talking about its many details for hours, like the hidden town maze, or the underworld under the caverns, or the docens of homages to Castlevania, and other games, but I will leave these for you to find and enjoy. I cant wait to see what is next from this talented developer.. Endica VII The Dream King is a game we all deserved growing up and are now gifted to be able to play now.Gameplay: Let's start with difficulty. If you are person who grew up playing side scrollers and love a challenge, go for hard. It rewards players with bullet hell and difficult bosses. I have also played a bit of normal through the start, but choosing certain characters will let you breeze on by.With a plethora of characters and distinctions between each, the game has a rich choice of gameplay types. I personally am a rush down type, so Valos and Dash are great for starters. Mages like Emily area amzing as well. The only issue I am having is finding a player 2 to have amage as well. The mechanics are what define this game. A well polished medroidvania for it first hitting the market, with great platforming, enemies, bosses and more. The game also features skills for all characters, making a personal experience for each and giving different play styles and a sense of completionism. I pesonally will go back and grab all the coins I can to unlock more to the game. The fast-paced mechanics and quick reactions make this game a phenomenal blend of what I have always wanted in a side scroller I never really got in Megaman, Castlevania, Metroid, Contra, Metal Slug, Legend of Mana, etc. It blends all the wants and needs of a Metroidvania into one.Story: I know the story may seem childish compared to games of today, but almost all 16 bit fantasy side scorllers usually had a lighter side to them. A close compariosn to me is Secret of Mana, which one of the original composers helped with the soundtrack for the game as well (Disclaimer: The soundtrack is fantastic and holds true to the backdrop of the story and type of game). I am not far into as I wished to write this review, but reading the dialogue is a quick indication. In closing, the game is a fantasic piece that should not be overlooked! It offers amazing gameplay, a stunning soundtrack, a nostalgic story and boasts so much more. I would recommend playing the game with a few friends for probably one of the best couch co-ops in the last few years or enjoy playing the solo. Either way, this game is simply awesome.. Plays like alot of the Megaman game and it has Local Multiplayer! so far im having fun with this one!. Garbage; avoid at all costs. Criminal to ask $10.Simply not fun, and it's easy to make the game unable to progress. For example, I was playing Emily not long after the second "boss" that just jumps around a lot. Entered an area blocked off by a shield of sorts and couldn't progress. I then couldn't get back out of the hole, as Emily was big enough to enter, but too big to leave...
