Sheriff Alex Truman has a peaceful life dealing with lost dogs, trivial disputes, and a few drunks here and there. He should be the happiest lawman in the world. But there's just one small part of him that longs for some excitement, for something that would break the monotony he doesn't even realise is eating him alive.One cold November night it seems his unspoken wishes may have been granted when he’s involved in a car accident with a man who appears suddenly in the middle of the road. The developer seems like a very decent guy though so give it a shot if you want to immerse yourself into the Myst style of gaming where you enter a world with very little knowledge and have to learn from the notes and journals left by the people who previously inhabited the compound (with their different personalities and as stated by the dev, varying levels of education).. Classic point and click adventure with horror elements really calls back to the "old days" of computer gaming.Similar in tone and style to Scratches (one of the first games to effectively do a creepy jumpscare) this is a bit more complex and definitely only for those with a fair amount of patience and brain power.There's a bit of moon logic to some of the puzzles, and the opening puzzle relies on maths (I personally do not find mathematics "fun," but your mileage may vary.) Other puzzles will give you those "eureka moments" found in the classics of this genre, should you figure them out without resorting to a guide or trial and error.It's not perfect, and the plain, mostly static graphics are decidedly more akin to those older games than today's standards, but it has a decent story (which does end somewhat abruptly.) There's still a few typos in the text ('your' instead of 'you're,' and 'there' instead of 'they're,' e.g.) however, these are found in diaries written by some of the (never-seen) characters so may be deliberate choices. Voice acting is passable, considering there were only two actors doing several characters each.There are no slider puzzles.There is a maze section, but you cannot actually get lost or fail this section.There is a single timed sequence which can result in player death, but you are transported immediately back to the starting point of that section should you fail. All in all a very good adventure game made by a small team, especially if found on sale (as I did) for less than a buck.. I finished tha game today and yes, it's really not an easy game. In fact it's often quite frustrating and there are too many items in inventory. Sometimes new doors are unlocking without any obvious reason (or sign to the player that they are now open) so you have to search again and again if new areas have opened. You'll also have to read several PC screens and journals to fully understand the story or to even be able to solve the game. So it's frustrating and hard. BUT I still do recommend it because the story behind all the mystery is so complex unexpected and twisted that I know for sure that I won't forget it that fast. Also the graphics are looking nice and they and the soundtrack are really fitting the great atmosphere. So I give this game a "thump up" but be aware of the problems mentioned above before you spend money on it.. Without question, this is a game you should play if you are in to point/click adventures and an immersive storyline.Well worth the time, Corrosion is extremely well written with a storyline that is so compelling that I actually found it frustrating that I couldn't solve the puzzles fast enough. That's rare for me -- hell, I played World of Warcraft for seven years and I still couldn't tell you any of the silly backstory that Blizzard concocted.The plot of the game is GENUINE psychological horror as you are charged with investigating just exactly what the hell happened at this facility. I won't spoil the game for you by disclosing any of the story line. Truly, I saw the twists coming but I didn't care, it was compelling and a wonderful distraction from life.The game is short but the puzzles can be extremely complex. Many solutions, though not intuitive given many of the mystery games you have played before, take some creative, out-of-the-box thinking. In retrospect the solutions are pretty obvious if you pay attention and if you think about it. But you'll have to concentrate and pay attention to details.Graphics are good, sounds are good -- I enjoyed the computer "interface" as you "connect" to the Net. If you aren't a fan of point-and-click adventures you ain't gonna like the graphics or sound on this. It's a product that does its engine, Wintermute, a great service. Especially considering it's open source.Replay value is, obviously, low. If you go back and read fiction novels two or three times, you might find yourself doing that with this game as well. Who knows, in a couple of years I might want to experience the Cold Water experiment again.Heartily recommended, worth the time and the money. One of the few times I've felt so positive about recommending a game.Okay, so one spoiler -- SPOILER ALERT (sort of): If the government had just done their research they would have found that Milgram was already carrying out this kind of experiment.. If you are a true point and click fan, and like escape games, you'll like Corrosion: Cold Winter Waiting. Avoid using a walkthrough if you can help it. All of the answers are there, just read and observe everything, and think critically. The ending was abrupt, and a bit disappointing, but mostly because I didn't want it to end. Mildly scary (for a scaredy cat like me), with some mild gore, and suggested violence. Happy clicking!. the controls are terrible, the story line is some what ok but the way to solve them is a bit to the extreme, for example the code to the computer is damn near an algebraic equation!, i looked up the walkthrough and i got tired of it and un installed it, the clips and pictures provided looked apealing but the game it self it terrible at just being a game. Update to v1.2.2: Game is updated to v1.2.2Some people were having trouble using the ESC key to access the main menu, which was preventing saving. This update allows you to press F1 instead to access the main menu. This update will ONLY work with NEW GAMES. It will not work with save games.
